How it works

Every unit converts to radians first using exact definitions (1 degree = π/180 rad, 1 gradian = π/200 rad — a gradian divides a right angle into 100 instead of 90 units, 1 arcminute = 1/60 degree, 1 arcsecond = 1/3600 degree, 1 turn = 2π rad), then from radians to the target unit. Converting through a common base unit keeps every conversion pair exact.

Arcminutes and arcseconds are the fine-grained subdivisions astronomers, surveyors, and cartographers use for small angles (a degree splits into 60 arcminutes, each of which splits into 60 arcseconds), while gradians (also called gons) are mainly used in surveying and some European engineering contexts as a decimal-friendly alternative to degrees.
