Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) Calculator
Calculate mean arterial pressure and pulse pressure from a systolic/diastolic blood pressure reading.

Where this falls
93.3 falls in the "Normal" range.
How it works
Mean arterial pressure (MAP) is the average pressure in the arteries across one full heartbeat, not a simple average of the two numbers on a blood pressure reading. Because diastole (the resting phase) lasts roughly twice as long as systole (the contraction phase) at a typical resting heart rate, MAP is weighted toward diastolic pressure: MAP = diastolic + ⅓ × (systolic − diastolic), equivalent to (systolic + 2 × diastolic) ÷ 3.
Pulse pressure — simply systolic minus diastolic — is reported alongside it as the size of the swing between the two.
The result is compared against commonly taught clinical reference points: a MAP below 60 mmHg is often cited as insufficient to reliably perfuse the coronary arteries, brain, and kidneys, while 70-100 mmHg is the standard normal resting range.
FAQ
Is this a diagnosis?
No. This is a standard physiology formula applied to the numbers you enter, not a medical assessment. A single MAP reading, especially near a boundary, should be interpreted by a healthcare provider alongside trend, symptoms, and other vitals — not read as a verdict on its own.
Why is diastolic pressure weighted more heavily than systolic?
Because the heart spends more time relaxed (diastole) than contracting (systole) during each beat at a normal resting heart rate, arterial pressure sits closer to the diastolic value for more of the cycle — that's what the ⅓/⅔ weighting in the formula reflects. At a much faster heart rate, where diastole shortens, this exact ratio becomes less precise, which is why MAP is usually quoted alongside heart rate in clinical settings rather than from blood pressure alone.
